Look like a chef extraordinaire this holiday season

While looking for inexpensive gift ideas to give to friends and neighbors this holiday season, I came across a recipe for homemade peppermint bark snowflakes. I wanted a gift that would be personal and thoughtful, but wouldn’t break the bank!

I searched through many different versions of this recipe, but liked this one the most because all of the supplies can be found on Amazon.com (which means I don’t have to leave my computer and everything ships right to my door). I also liked this recipe because the end product looks like I spent hours slaving away in the kitchen – but they’re not that hard to make at all!

In the steps below, I’ll show you how to make these delicious holiday favorites for your family and friends!

You will need:

  • Either a microwave-safe bowl (glass or heavy-duty plastic) or a Wilton Chocolate Pro Electric Melting Pot (The melting pot is a little expensive, but if you bake or cook often, it can really be worth the money.)
  • A spoon or silicon spatula
  • Wilton Candy Melts chocolate in light or dark cocoa
  • Wilton Candy Melts chocolate in Candy Cane Colorburst
  • A silicone mold in the shape of your choosing (I used a snowflake ice cube mold so the peppermint bark would be bite sized and festive.)
  • A ½ tsp. measuring spoon

After you have gathered all of your supplies, you are ready to start!

  1. Melt your chocolates separately. (I used two chocolate melting pots for this, but you don’t have to.) If you’re using a microwave, put the two types of chocolate into separate bowls, then microwave each bowl in 10-second intervals at 50% power, stirring each time until completely melted.
  2. Using the ½ tsp. measuring spoon, put one spoonful of the cocoa chocolate in each cavity of the mold. It will look something like this:
  3. Tap the mold firmly against the counter for about 30 seconds to level out the chocolate and to get any air bubbles to come to the surface.
  4. Put your molds in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes, or until the chocolate has hardened.
  5. Again using the ½ tsp. measuring spoon, put one spoonful of the melted Candy Cane Colorburst chocolate in each cavity, on top of the hardened cocoa chocolate.
  6. Again, tap the molds against the counter to level the chocolate and eliminate any air bubbles. It should look like this:
  7. Put the molds in the freezer for another 5-10 minutes until the chocolate is hard to the touch.
  8. Take your homemade peppermint barks out of the molds and enjoy!
